State Representative Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur) released the following statement after Governor Pritzker released his flawed plan to keep central Illinois closed:
“At least we have the Governor admitting there needs to be a plan and it should be regional. Now that he’s been forced to release his plan, we see how out of touch he and his advisors really are with downstate Illinois. Putting 21 counties into Region (6) is a clear indication of that. Not disclosing the sources and methods for determining how a region will be reopening leads me to believe it will be arbitrary, at best. The fact that Governor Pritzker intends to wait for ‘a vaccine…or elimination of any new cases’ to fully reopen is unrealistic and dishonest.
The Governor does not have the authority to implement this plan without legislative approval. He is not allowed to shut down our economy based on his assumptions. It’s past time for the General Assembly to return to Springfield and get to work now for the people of Illinois.”
