State Representative Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur) and the Illinois House Republican caucus today launched a comprehensive legislative package called Reimagine Illinois. The plan outlines House Republicans’ priorities for the 2021 legislative session and asks Illinoisans to ‘Reimagine’ their state government if certain public policy goals are achieved.
In a response to questions, Rep. Dan Caulkins said “Imagine how better-off families would be if we were to pass legislation to make Illinois a better place to live, work, and raise a family. Imagine if the State of Illinois put an end to corruption in our government and began to pass balanced budgets without new taxes. I’m urging both parties to come together and approve legislation to that end. We could see more manufacturing jobs return to central Illinois, less taxation, and safer communities.”
Reimagine Illinois consists of four components, each of which includes a list of introduced bills to reflect those initiatives:
- Ending the culture of corruption
- Responsible fiscal leadership
- Growing jobs and opportunities for our families
- Ensuring public safety
Rep. Caulkins added, “Oftentimes, politicians will just talk about what needs to be done without offering solutions. Today, my House Republican colleagues filed legislation I support that will help solve Illinois’ problems. These bills include banning lawmakers from serving as lobbyists, requiring Illinois to pass a balanced budget without using accounting gimmicks, eliminating overregulation of our businesses, stopping unfunded mandates, reform pensions, and ensure the safety of our citizens by creating a back-the-badge program. If the legislature adopts our plan to Reimagine Illinois, then the future of our state will be in good hands for our children and grandchildren.”
