State Representative Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur) issued a statement following the Illinois House of Representatives approval of a hidden tax on Illinois jobs:
“While House Democrats voted to tax jobs in Illinois, I stood with taxpayers by voting against the jobs tax. The lockdowns enforced by Governor Pritzker two years ago put thousands of people out of work which led to a massive $4.5 billion in unemployment insurance debt. Instead of properly using funds received from the federal government to pay off this debt, House Democrats have chosen to only pay down $2.7 billion of this debt, forcing a tax on every dollar earned on the job. Inflation and gas prices are already high. Now, Democrat leaders just created another tax on workers in Illinois. This decision is nonsense and is another example of bad leadership in state government.”
