Veto Session Update
The Democrat supermajority in Springfield did virtually nothing during last week’s veto session to address the serious issues that our state faces. We all continue to suffer the consequences of their negligent behavior.
Important issues like school choice, sanctuary state status, troubled child protective services, nuclear energy restrictions, and support for Israel (just to name a few) continue to be ignored by the party in charge.
Let’s hope we can address substantive issues this week.
Gun Registry Hearings
The Illinois State Police, tasked with managing the registration portion of the new gun ban law, are holding three public hearings to answer citizens’ questions. Last week there was a capacity crowd in a statehouse conference room seeking clarification about what will happen if the law is declared unconstitutional, and what happens in the interim for tens of thousands of gun owners who are awaiting the ruling before registering their firearms.
Illinois’ gun ban has been in effect for a month now and it appears residents are not quick to register their so-called banned firearms with the Illinois State Police (ISP). With over 2.4 million Firearm Owners ID card holders, just one-tenth of a percent has registered their firearms, attachments, or prohibited ammunition.
Residents are required by law, thanks to the governor, to register certain firearms before January 1st or they could face criminal penalties.
I am a co-sponsor of House Bill 4150, which would require that all related registration information be destroyed when the gun ban law is found unconstitutional.
NO GOTION!
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) should not be receiving American taxpayer funded green energy credits for any reason.
PERIOD.
Republicans are stepping up with legislation that opposes the CCP-affiliated battery company Gotion from building factories in Illinois and Michigan.
End Illinois Sanctuary State Status
Due to the Biden Administration’s TRUST Act, Illinois is now facing the consequences of its sanctuary state status. State law enforcement agencies are prohibited from cooperating with federal agencies, and there is a tremendous strain on state resources.
I am a cosponsor of House Bill 4187 which would abolish the Illinois TRUST Act.
With approximately 628,000 undocumented immigrants in Illinois, the cost to taxpayers is expected to be
$3 billion annually.
The totally predictable response from incompetent Illinois Democrats?
‘SEND US MORE FEDERAL MONEY!!’
Who Issued The Gag Order?
Illinois Democrats’ silence on the recent horrors that have unfolded between Hamas and Israel is being dictated from somewhere. It is not organic by any means.
From the vicious Hamas attacks on Israel to the hostage taking of Israelis to the murder of a 6-year-old Muslim boy in Illinois, not a single Illinois Democrat legislator has spoken out on the House floor to condemn any of it.
The silence can only mean one thing:
Governor J.B. Pritzker is making a political calculation for a presidential run.
The American Left Wants to Be Like China
CENSORSHIP. CENSORSHIP. CENSORSHIP.
We knew the media literacy mandate for schools would be problematic and we were not wrong.
The Chicago Tribune’s contribution to ‘Media Literacy Week’ this past week was an opinion piece written by the executive editor of News Guard, which is supposedly a staunch opponent of news ‘misinformation’.
In reality, News Guard is an outfit that is closely connected with many left-leaning establishments in order to support their narrative. This includes, but is not limited to, the World Health Organization, the American Federation of Teachers, the CDC and CNN.
I stopped by for a harvest visit with McLean County Farm Bureau board member, Mark Hines.
From WMBD: Harvest update shows positive results for Illinois farmers (msn.com)
“When it comes to the numbers, 81% of corn and 89% of soybeans have been reported. Both percentages are ahead of schedule, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
“It’s not a record-breaker, especially for corn because we’ve had some really good yields the last couple of years, but it’s still excellent compared to the 10-year average,” he said.”
25 Must Try Pumpkin Recipes
With pumpkins in abundance this time of year (and canned pumpkin prices at a seasonal low) you can make a wide variety of yummy recipes, from sweet to savory.
And don’t forget to roast those seeds!
