Rep. Caulkins’ Bill on Pharmacy Patient Records Advances Out of Committee

State Representative Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur) sponsored a bill on pharmacy patient records that advanced out of Committee earlier this week. The bill has been placed on the Calendar for Second Reading.

House Bill 4480 amends the Pharmacy Practice Act; and requires that a pharmacy shall inform a patient if it releases the patient’s records to any person or entity without the patient’s written consent.

The bill also stipulates that pharmacies shall create and publish an annual report containing the number of patient information requests, including subpoenas and warrants, that the pharmacy receives and how many of those requests are fulfilled during the preceding calendar year.
