On Anniversary of Dobbs Decision, 54% Increase in Abortions for Planned Parenthood Illinois
Pro-life Americans around the country are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the reversal of the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in all states. Known as the Dobbs decision, the Mississippi court case limiting most abortions to the first 15 weeks in that state was challenged at the U.S. Supreme Court and the Court returned decision-making on abortion back to the states, finding no U.S. Constitutional right to an abortion.
Following the Dobbs decision, numerous states enacted laws to limit abortion. In anticipation of the overturning of Roe, Planned Parenthood has been opening abortion businesses in towns along the Illinois Border since 2018. This map shows abortion sites that have opened (not all Planned Parenthood) within the last five years and two more that are in the works.
For Planned Parenthood business has grown dramatically. In a recent interview Planned Parenthood Illinois noted that abortions are up 54%, that out of state clients are up 25% and that the number of abortions performed after 16 weeks has also increased. Abortions after the first trimester are more complicated and dangerous, and more profitable for the abortion industry.
State Representative Dan Caulkins responded to the above news saying, “On the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision the lives of thousands of children across the country have been saved. Unfortunately, though, in Illinois we have seen abortions increase. Our extreme laws on abortion that allow abortion for any reason without parental notice and often funded by taxpayers have made us the abortion capital of the Mid-West. The statistics from Planned Parenthood prove this statement and are shocking.
Let’s be clear, the Democrats are not interested in abortion laws that make it safe, legal and rare anymore. My fear is that the uptick in abortions coupled with our permissive abortion laws and the fact that abortion facilities in Illinois are not inspected or licensed, will make it more likely that more women will face serious medical problems or even death from a botched abortion procedure in this state.
This year Illinois Democrats included $18 million for an abortion hotline and training program that will make it easier for women to get an abortion in Illinois. Making Illinois a tourist destination for the killing of innocent life is a stain on our legacy of taking up arms to protect the innocent. I want to thank the pro-life community for their vigilance over the last 50 years that ended with Dobbs decision and encourage them in their work to help women facing a crisis pregnancy.”

As Governor Pritzker blusters around claiming that businesses will want to come to Illinois because our state can offer their employees abortions, there is another man paving the way for businesses to operate in a better and more ethical way.
Michael Seifert is the CEO and founder of PublicSq which is an app designed to link patriotic businesses with “quality products, services and exclusive discounts.” He didn’t like the anti-family direction he saw the world going in, so he decided to offer his employees $5K bonuses when they have a baby or adopt a child to counter the ‘destructive’ push toward abortions.

Pritzker’s Administration Will Close Enrollment for State-Funded Health Insurance for Immigrants
On Friday, Governor JB Pritzker acted to restrict a medicaid-style program to provide health coverage to undocumented immigrants. The program was initially created in 2020 to cover those immigrants 65 and older and has since been expanded twice, currently covering those 42 and older. In response, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie released the following update:
This session, the majority party should have addressed the concerns of the increasing enrollment and skyrocketing cost of state-funded health insurance for immigrants who are in the country illegally, but they did not. Instead, they opted to give the Governor full authority to make the decisions. I am pleased the Governor listened to the countless concerns around the $1.1B program, and agreed with the Republican-led initiative of HR220 to take action.
Filed by Deputy House Leader Ryan Spain (Peoria), HR 220 emphasizes the need for an audit and a pause in new enrollees to address the financial challenges we are facing. It is important to exercise fiscal responsibility, both in the short-term and long-term, to ensure sustainability, and it is crucial to assess the impact of these expansions, particularly as they are not eligible for federal matching funds.
To give credit where credit is due, Gov. Pritzker made the right decision to close enrollment for the state-funded health insurance program for those undocumented under age 65 and cap enrollment for those 65 and older to 16,500 people. According to reports, these changes will be effective July 1st. People enrolled in the program have a co-pay of $250 for inpatient hospitalizations and $100 for emergency room visits if the services they receive are not eligible for reimbursements from the federal government. There also will be a 10% coinsurance charge for outpatient services at hospitals or ambulatory surgery centers. As of June 7th, there were 63,255 people enrolled in the program.
The majority party passed a $50.6B budget and it is more important than ever that Illinois prioritizes fiscal responsibility and ensures that taxpayer funds are used for essential programs that compassionately serve our most vulnerable. The Governor’s decision was imperative to manage costs and help to ensure state resources are utilized fairly and efficiently.

Illinois State Senator Patricia Van Pelt no longer takes part in the legislative process but has refused to resign from office, and Senate Majority Leader Don Harmon can’t appoint a replacement for the District 5 seat and its more than 218,000 residents. Sources claim that they didn’t see Van Pelt cast a single floor vote or take part in any committee hearings during the last legislative session. Democrats haven’t pushed for the seat to be filled, since they enjoy a supermajority and don’t need her vote.
