Illinois State Representative Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur) issued a statement following the guilty verdict on both perjury and obstruction charges being handed down in federal court today in the trial of former Madigan Chief of Staff Tim Mapes:
“Today’s guilty verdict on both perjury and obstruction charges against Tim Mapes comes as no surprise. Another Illinois Democrat has been found guilty of corruption, and how many more indictments do we need to get real ethics reforms established in this state? It’s time for the General Assembly to make ethics reform its top priority. We need to empower the Legislative Inspector General with subpoena power so their office can conduct thorough and meaningful investigations to get to the bottom of ethics complaints against legislators and their staffs. House Republicans have been demanding changes to state ethics laws for years, and it’s time for the Democrats to come to the table and help put a stop to all of this corruption.”
